Husband diagnosed Oct '11 Cancer of the vocal cord Nov '11 removed right vocal cord. Neck Dissection, cancer in one node, .2, very small & contained) Jan '12 Radiation and Cisplatin, 6 doses. June '12 & Dec '12 clear Pet scan. April '13 Celebrating 1 year cancer free since treatment ended.

1996, ovarian cancer surgery + cisplatin and taxol.
September, 2007, SCC of left lateral tongue. Excision.
October, 2009 recurrence in scar tissue, T1NOMO. Free flap surgery from left wrist - neck dissection. 63 year old New Zealander. No chemo, no RT.
February, 2014. New primary in left buccal mucosa. Marginal mandibulectomy, neck dissection, right arm free forearm flap. T1N0M0 but third occurrence and some areas of concern: RT started 8 April and finished 19 May.

He has been working on Kris's teeth for about a year now.
It's just too far to travel down to Auckland for all the after care. We are pretty happy up here. Just miss the SLT' at Auckland - Esther and particularly Jeanette.

PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

I'm seeing Esther this Thursday and going to Greenlane (difficult journey for me) on Friday to see the oral team. I'm going to prepare some pertinent questions about the care of my remaining teeth. It's going to be one of my big challenges:)

Wife to John,dx 10/2012, BOT, HPV+, T3N2MO, RAD 70 gy,Cisplatinx2 , PEG in Dec 6, 2012, dx dvt in both legs after second chemo session, Apr 03/13 NED, July 2013 met to lungs, Phase 1 immunotherapy trial Jan 18/14 to July/14. Taxol/carboplatin July/14. Esophagus re-opened Oct 14. PEG out April 8, 2015. Phase 2 trial of Selinexor April to July 2015. At peace Jan 15, 2016.

Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 6 | Hi, i had a huge ulcer on my tongue that just wouldn't heal i was about to have surgery to remove it when i tried Organic coconut oil....not only did it sooth my mouth it healed my ulcer my ENT was amazed ...might be worth a try?

no saliva
no taste
11/11/11 started having BP issues, no diagnosis yet suspect Baroreflex Failure
2/10/2014 12 teeth removed HBO x60 healed well except for 2 sides
April 2014 started to get saliva back
8/30/2014 DX osteoradionecrosis of the jaw waiting on surgery

Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,671 | Whatever is tried in an effort to relieve a symptom should be checked out with a doctor just to make sure it doesn't interfere with the patient's treatment. Sometimes the most natural things - even vitamins can cause problems. Just my 2 cents.
