Hi all

So back to the oral surgeon for me tuesday, somehow i cant believe this is happening. I still hark back to the days of being addicted to nicotine lozenges and i dont care what anyone says they can and do cause people cancer.

I have a white circular patch in the top of my mouth with a red blood vessel sticking out of the middle, right on the edge of the left palatine bone. I keep having red vessels and patches popping up in my cheek linings, most perculiar,

Somehow when i posted last year having had an unhealed ulcer in the floor of my mouth and luckily a negative biopsy, i was thankful for the advice on here, donated and sent prayers and did not think i would be back in here again.

I am 31 so youngish and have a five year old son to live for. I have little faith in the medical profession as i was told having constant nicotine in my mouth for two years plus was safer than puffing on a bit on a cigarette. Well my mum and dad have smoked all their lives and do not have oral cancer. However, my non smoki great gran died in her thirties of throat cancer. Do mouth and throat cancer share a gene? Is that one?

Well i will probably have to begrudgingly put my life in the hands of these medical professionals of which i have no faith. Especially as its all money making after all.

Any thoughts? Xxx

Any sore thats in your mouth for 2 or 3 weeks and it does not heal should be checked by a professional (ENT or oral surgeon who specialize in OC patients). To find out what it is they should biopsy it if its been there for 2 or more weeks. Only thru a biopsy will the doc know for certain what the sore is. They can give you a well educated guess but a biopsy will tell you for sure what it is.

Im unclear what you are asking with your question, please clarify it ..... Do mouth and throat cancer share a gene?

Best wishes!

Hi christine

Thank you for responding. I admire you for the work that you do, especially with that you have been through.

By gene, i mean is there a gene link to mouth cancer? If so is it the same for throat cancer?

My great gran non smoker died in her early thirties.

My mom was a smoker who died of lung cancer. I have never smoked or drunk. I ended up with a tongue tumor, I do think cancer is random - though some cancers can be caused by say excessive drinking and smoking, not everyone gets cancer but it's likely there is some predisposition - point in fact - my father in laws family - his dad died of esophageal cancer, and 4 of his sons have had or presently are battling throat, esophageal cancer. It could be lifestyle - habit and genetics. Hugs
