I have laser surgery to treat some dysplasia on the side of my tongue in september. The surgery went well, and pathology came back as mild dysplasia with clear margins. From what i undestand the surgeon chose laser to remove the minimum amount of tissue possible. Looking at the wound afterwards, it looked like a burnt crater in the side of my tongue. Since the surgery i have had developed a fleshy growth on the wound site. Its the same colour as my tongue, and very soft. I saw my surgeon at the end of October for routine follow up, and he described this growth as being a "granulation" and can be a side effect of laser. The growth is definetly growing larger and its beginning to feel sore. I have read about granualtion and the description and photos do look what i have. I was curious if anyone else has had this after laser?
Thanks all

Later during one of my doctor days during radiation therapy I asked what the surgery site looked like, and the doctor replied granulated.
He said that was normal for my case.
I don't know if this helps, but no one else had responded yet.
take care, Tony

I would err on the side of caution and have it checked out ASAP..

I have brought my appointment forward to have it looked at. I found something on google. It describes exactly what i have, and the picture is similar too. With the fact i had a mild dysplasia in pathology, i am pretty sure i would not progress this far in 10 weeks to something as nasty as a large tumour. Although slightly concerned, i am not that worried. I think you get fed up with worrying over things after a while. I certainly have! It seems like its an intersting read. I'm almost tempted to buy the book! I will post back in the new year with my consultant outcome. I am expecting surgery to remove it at the least.
All the best

The growth was benign, and excessive granulation tissue from the laser. This is not uncommon apparently. The Tissue had grown out quite large on what i can only describe as a stalk, which led to a large mushroom shape of flesh. It was removed under a local anasthetic, and literally took 5 minutes. I was back at work the same afternoon. There is not much information out there with regard to exceesive granulation tissue following laser excisions. I hope this post helps others.
