My Oncologist is having molecular testing done to my pathology samples.
I don't know much about this.
Is this to help determine what type of chemotherapy would best suit me?
Any information or reference would be greatly appreciated.

'08 SCC Rt tongue,part glossect.
'09 Rt neck dissect, 3 Cisplatin, 35 rad.
Aug '11 Rt tongue,hemiglosstmy, Lt neck dissect, forearm flap, 8 Erbitux,30 rad, brachy tongue.
Oct '12 SCC prev stoma site. SCC inside trachea.
Nov '12 total larengectomy, addl neck disect, pec flap
Oct '15 Myelodysplastic Syndrome (form of leukemia)
Dec 8, 2015 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 1,024 | I dont really know, but would think that this is looking for genetic markers and also testing your tumour against various chemo agents to find out what treatment will work best for you. Especially since your cancer has recurred now on a number of occasions.
I really hope that this will benefit you Cindy. Good luck and let us know all the answers when you have spoken to your doc.

PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,264 Likes: 5 | Yes it's what Tambonk says it gives them a heads up on what chemos to choose for you in hopes that it will be more effective than doing the eeny meeny miney mo method... sarcasm aside it tailors the chemo to suit your tumor. Hugs.
