Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | Hey you all. Here's a brief update. I had a ct scan of chest and a bone scan one Wednesday. Ct scan showed excessive fluid around the pericardium, pericardial effusion, and "focal groundglass infiltrates" in my lungs. Bone scan showed increased activity in my mandible suggesting dental disease. I also had a biopsy of my tongue and waiting for those results. Headed to cardio today as well as pulminologist. Praying this is either pneumonia or sarcoidosis (my brother has it). Been quite an overwhelming few days.

Go back to cardio next week for echo, and chest x ray in three weeks, and back to pulminologist after that. If spots are still there then he will do a biopsy to rule out sarcoidosis. Haven't heard about the tongue biopsy yet. Still waiting.

Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | Well, my results of the biopsy are back. It is some sort of fungus. I am not sure which one, but my RO thinks that could be whats going on with my lumgs and quite possible my heart, any would be why I have been so sick for so long. I will have another scan once finished with the antifungal to see if that takes care of the heart and lung issues. So glad it was not cancer, and so thankful for an ENT that listened and did the biopsy.

Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 4 | Good news finding the source, and no cancer. If you were given an anti-fungal, it's probably a fungal infection. I had disseminated or invasive candiasis, out out control thrush, throughout the body, which can be deadly, effects, shuts down organs, as well as any other infection going septic.

R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | Here is the exact pathology report: "there is mucosal ulceration with granulation tissue formation and acute inflammation and tissue necrosis with focal organisms suspicious for fungal infection such as Candida, present in the necrotic granulation tissue."
