Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 5 | i am waiteing for surgery, removel of turbinates, polyps, and septum straitend. I also have throat and ear pain. I had HPV earlyer this year on my cervix, help.

Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 559 Likes: 1 | Hi MCW - To me it doesn't really matter whether you've been diagnosed with cancer or not. You are worried and you asked for help. That makes you a member of the family. If it turns out you don't have the big C, then you just won't be active for very long.
So, welcome to the family. It's a big group of brothers and sisters and we are all here to help. If you have it, we know what you are going through as we have it too, some of us are just a little further down the road than you are.
But, every one of us remember when we were first diagnosed and how scared that made us feel initially. Most of that fear is fear of the unknown because none of us are born knowing what cancer is and we don't really learn about it until either we get it, or someone near and dear to us gets it.
So, welcome to the club even though I know it's a club you'd just as soon not be a member of.
Now, as for having to wait until January for surgery, yes I know that sucks. It seems a few of my appointments happened with just a short wait, but many had long waits before actually occurring. That always drives us insane; don't they know we want to know today. Sadly, that's not the way it works. With this disease you have to learn patience.
I know most of what I'm saying sounds like it's appropriate for someone already diagnosed. I hope you are not diagnosed, but if you are, we are your friends, lean on us, we will help get you through this thing.

09/13 SCC, HPV 16, tonsillectomy, T2N0.
11/13 start rads, no chemo
12/13 taste gone, dry mouth,
02/14 hair slowly returning
05/14 taste the same, dry sinuses, irrigation helps.
01/15 food taste about 60% returned, dry sinuses are worse in winter.
12/20 no more sinus problems, taste pretty good

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Is the polyp related to the other nasal procedures?
What has this got to do with oral cancer?
Why are these procedures being done, i.e., why were you advised to have them?
Still seems like a ton of time to wait for anything!

Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 5 | Hi David A large Polyp is in my Sinus, because I have been useing a nasel sray that prevents them for a few years now the ENT consultant is concerned I also have turbinates that are large and blocking my airways, so im haveing those removed. I also have a deveated septum. I have a painfull throat that wont go away even after antibiotics and a painfull ear. My mother had a brain tumer. Hopefully after the procedures are done I may be able to breath through my nose and not my mouth.
