PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!

Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 4 | Due to the trismus, they had to administer anthesesia, oyygen through the nasal passage. Once knock out it was ok, but they had to do several numbing sprays, some on cotton sticks, in the nose and mouth, before they started. Still better than a trach I was somewhat expecting, and I tried to open my mouth as far as I could to help prevent, which my ENT said was fine, but not for the anesthesiologist.

Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 4 | Cheryl, my infection is gone, for now. I did the pre-op physical, blood work with flying colors . I was given several antibiotic infusions for another reason after the test I had with some closing devices installed in the femoral.
