Hi there,

I am new here. 45yr female, never smoked, light drinker, assume HPV negative. I went to an oral surgeon today about a lump on the inner bottom lip. It is skin coloured/pink, soft, moveable and about 1cm and might have been there more than a year. I know, I should have got it checked out sooner. The dentist thought it was a mucocele but the oral surgeon said possibly but that it had some fibrous texture on top.

I guess I just wanted to put this out here in case anyone has been through similar with a positive outcome. I'm pretty sure it will be benign. Well 90% of the time. The other 10% I freak myself out with worry. The suurgeon said he "would be surprised" if it wasn't benign. I'd rather he hd said it"definitely isn't bad" but I guess he can'tt say that until it is tested.

Hi Heather,

Welcome to the forum. I'm 2 weeks new to the forum myself, so I can't give you much technical information to make you feel any better. But, I can tell you that there is a great group of people here, people you will soon call friends, friends who will cheer you up when you're down or worried and share your happiness when you get good news from the doctors.

I'm sure someone here knows something about what you have. I also think you will get more replies if you first post this in the Introduce Yourself tab of the forum. If I hadn't been cruisin the Symptoms and Diagnosis tab I would've missed it too.

And you might as well create a signature line under My Stuff, Edit Profile. Other's will ask you to do this too. It allows everyone to know at a glance the details of your case and makes it easier for them to respond to you.

Once again, welcome.
Tony

Heather, there are all kinds of things that your sore could be besides cancer. Hopefully the oral surgeon did a biopsy. Thats the only way to tell for sure what it is.

Good luck!

Had the biopsy and now waiting for my appointment on 29th for the results. He took the whole thing out so I have a few stitches and am a bit swollen.

Had the check-up today and am healing well. He says I will be numb for a couple of months. No biopsy result yet but yesterday was a public holiday and he said he got the samples off a bit late. I guess this all means it's not considered urgent.

Hi Heather, hope you don't have to wait too long for the results. I would chase them up Friday if you haven't heard. Our ENT gave me the biopsy results on the phone. I was grateful as the waiting was unbearable and I wanted to hear as soon as the ENT got them.
Hoping yours is negative,
Tammy

Thanks Tammy. I'm in NZ too. Not sure if that shows up anywhere. I feel much calmer after seeing the oral surgeon as he was much more reassuring today than before the biopsy.
