Is it common to have extra mucous in the throat after lingual tonsillectomy? If so, what can I do for this? Any meds to dry it up, because I'm unable to spit at this time? Also, is it ok to ice neck dissection area for swelling? Anything would be useful right now. I'm scared to spit mucous out for fear of coughing a d causing a bleed. Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 1 | As far as the ice, I never applied it or told to do so, but was not instructed not to do it either. I did take showers after a while, mine heal slower due to radiation, and stitches stay in longer like 21 days, but otherwise I left it alone. Your best bet is to give a call to your ENT's office and ask, unless someone else has experience with this. Good luck.

Metastatic SCC. Stage III. HPV positive with occult primary. N1, no ecs
7/1/11 - L-Selective neck dissection. Tonsillectomy. All clean. No rad, no chemo.
5/29/13 - Found primary
7/3/13 - TORS
7/8/13 - Emergency Surgery/Blood vessel burst in throat
8/9/13 - Peg in
9/3/13 - Radiation starts 30 IMRT, 60gy BOT, 56gy both sides of neck
10/14/13 - Radiation ended!
11/12/13 - PEG out!
