It's been a while since I've been back on here. Husband doing well and back at work in the afternoons although he STILL can't swallow. Still feeding himself through the tube and he's very frustrated over it. He's had a few esophageal dilations and also the TREAD procedure where the surgeon was able to open quite well. However, surgeon said there is tethering of the laryngotracheal complex due to the radiation, which is why my husband is having trouble swallowing. He completed TX on May 11! Jack is having swallow therapy twice a week but still only able to sip ice chips. Surgeon said Jack needs to keep exercising the area and swallowing will come back in time. Jack is having the port removed this Thursday and another esophageal dilation. Crossing fingers!
Oh yes! Most importantly, the PET CT Scan he had three weeks ago showed he is CANCER FREE. Yippee! Now to swallow.
Question: Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how was it solved?

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | A speech pathologist should be able to help with swallowing. A barium swallow test should be done to ensure its safe to swallow and that liquids or food isnt going down the wrong pipe when trying to eat and drink.
