Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 1 | I am 5 years out after surgery and radiation for oral tongue cancer and have recently been experiencing shock like pain in my tongue 30-50 times per day brought on mainly by eating or brushing teeth. Is this a nerve regenerating? Anytime there is pain, a recurrence, residual or a new cancer, not that it is, should be ruled out by the doctor. It could be done by a visual, palpable or other diagnostic scan, but the only thing that proves cancer is a biopsy, if they suspect such. Good luck.

Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,606 Likes: 2 | Rule out cancer first. Nerve pain will never go away unless you do something. Tongue muscles can hurt and nerves can hurt in the tongue. All the nerves go through the neck. Damaged nerves from surgery take a long time to reconnect as well.
