Speak up and talk to your doc about your ears. You do NOT want another dose of cisplatin as it can do permanent damage. This cant be fixed either, so talk to your doc right away. Ringing is the first sign of a potential problem.

Begin rinsing your mouth at least 4 times per day with 16 of warm water, 2 tsp baking soda and 2 tsp salt. If it burns too much try to cut back the salt. If you must, omit the salt. But remember salt water helps with heeling so try your best to keep some salt in the mixture. This will help to neutralize the ph balance in your mouth and will help the sores. Also ask for a prescription for magic mouthwash to swish around for about 20 second and spit out. It will help numb your mouth so you can eat easier. If you arent on pain meds, ask for something to help you with the mouth sores. Hurting wont help make it easier, it will only make things much harder than it has to be.

Its seems like its a very long road to being well. It will be full of ups and downs, unfortunately alot of downs. Keep going no matter what, even if you want to quit you must finish your treatments. It will unfortunately get progressively harder as time goes by. Even the first 2 or 3 weeks after finishing are difficult. But hang in there and stick with us and we will help get you thru this. We have been where you are and know what its like every horrible minute of it, we lived it. If you need to vent or ask questions, we will help you with both support and info.

Best wishes with everything!!!

Christine

Hi Meli,
When you have your appointment with your chemo oncologist at Greenlane you must mention the ringing in the ears. I'm sure they will switch the chemo drug.
Keep rinsing with the salt and soda bic mouthwash frequently. I'm sure Bob the dentist will guide you when you see him next Wednesday.
Also speak up when you see your Radiation oncologist this coming week about the pain. You can also mention it to the radiation techs who will ensure you get seen and given stronger pain meds straight away.
It is also very important that you continue to swallow every day to keep those muscles working. I'm sure the SLTs have reminded you often about this - they are fantastic ladies. Do you have a PEG?
Take it easy and be kind to yourself,
Tammy
