My question is I am 4 weeks out of treatment and the past week I am noticing a swollen lymph node on the right side same as treatment side. I don't see the Doctor until August for my first scan. Should I be concerned and get seen quicker or is my concern just part of being a survivor. Thanks, Steve

Best of luck!

ditto Cheryl. Typically you would see your MO/RO about where you are half way to first scan anyway. I'm surprised you seem to not have any visit scheduled for that entire 8 week post period. Give them a call Monday and get in there. Better safe than sorry and as I said they should have scheduled a check up anyway about now. don

Call the doctor and explain what the problem is and ask to see him. Don't be intimidated by the thought that the doctor might think you are overreacting.

I am making calls this morning to get an appointment. I thought it was odd that it was so long before the next appointment. During treatment you see the Dr. once a week but my worst time was the 2 to 3 weeks after treatment.

John's first appointment after treatment was seven weeks. He had his first CT scan after twelve weeks. We were told also that we could call the doctor and ask to see him if anything should concern us. Nevertheless, it was a long wait, for sure.

Radiation continues to work just as long as your treatment lasted, 6 weeks. It could be a necrotic lymph node that has yet to subside. I had swelling of a cancerous node long after treatment that was slowly getting smaller, and had to wait 5 months to get a PET/CT. Good luck.

The RO said it was nothing to worry about and appeared to be fluid build up where the tongue attaches in the neck. The swelling had actually gone down some since I had become concerned. It's amazing what a mood changer a little good news can be!
