Well I've just had my appointment.

I was seen by two oral surgeons. The first said he couldn't feel anything so went and got his consultant, who had a feel too. He said he COULD feel a lump but said he wasn't worried and told me he thought it was a tonsil. Apparently they increase and decrease in size now and again. He said that if it continues to bother me, then to make another appointment and they'll sort it out for me.

Hopefully he is right and that's all it is, I'll try to forget about my mouth for a week or so (that means no touching Aimee), and see if it decreases in size. I think has a bit, it's weird. It kinda gets big and a little firm and then I get the strange sensation in my mouth like something. Has burst then a slightly funny taste and it feels a little smaller, think its done this twice now.

Yeah... hopefully it remains - nothing - but do as he says - follow up if you are still bothered in a few weeks. take care

What hospital did you attend? I went to the Luton and Dunstable and would recommend the max facs surgeon there.

In your Signature Line you say HPV-. I assume you are talking about the cervix not the oral cavity because they are totally independent. BTW swollen tonsils can be a sign of oral cancer and only a biopsy can tell for sure. I think you need a referral higher up the food chain.

I went to Broomfield hospital. Yes I'm aware swollen tonsils can be a sign of cancer but I have been prodding it a lot since I found it, and since I've not touched it much the past few days it seems to be going down a bit. But I'll still get it checked out if it persists of course. And no I mean both oral and cervical HPV, at least I wouldn't think I had it as I have no idea how I would have gotten it, seeing as my verginity is intact in every way.

I think a week or two of leaving my mouth alone and tryi g to distract myself will help my mind rest a bit and maybe some of my symptoms will go. I still have the appointment from the dentist to come through yet, so if it is still a problem then, I'll use that to get proper tests done.

It would be rare for you to test + for HPV with your "virginity is intact in every way" but not impossible. Certainly depends on that "every way" definition and I mean no disrespect in this post. You have everything going against a Dx of oral cancer but do stay on top of it.

Definitely it could be something else... an infection...? Hopefully it's nothing but diligence is important. We had a young mom here with a tongue cancer, then a recurrence in her tonsil, non HPV. For those of us with no known cause - I imagine it can occur anywhere, and despite the fact that MOST tonsil cancers are HPV related, that's not 100 %.. hugs

Six doctors and two oral surgeons feel there's nothing to really worry yourself about. I'd say that's a pretty positive prognosis!

The fact that I have no risk factors that I'm aware of and the 9 medical professionals (including dentist) say they don't think it's cancer is reassuring. But the fact that its been around for a while now (almost 3 months) and they can't tell me what it is exactly bothers me. That sling with the fact that I could have it with no risk factors of course.

I think I'm going to TRY and forget about it for a couple of weeks and if its still bothering me then I'll ring the hospital as advised by the oral surgeon and see what they will do about it.

Hi Jade. I've been on holiday since my last post, and you have certainly been going through the mill for the last 2 weeks. I am almost hoping that you don't see this post for quite a while and that you are taking your own advice to 'TRY and forget about it for a couple of weeks'. This forum can be quite addictive and I think you should try to find some other interest to keep you occupied. But do give us an update in the future. It sounds like you now have the gastric reflux under control and if you can stop proding the suspicious bits, then there is a good chance that it will settle down. Best wishes. Sally
