Hey. Haven't posted in a while. Feeling a little blue but that's another forum! I haven't eaten since first week of may. No PEG tube. My dr said they only put them in as last resort as they feel ultimately they do more harm than good. I have lost about 50 pounds. I was overweight to start with so it's not as bad as it seems. My question is this. I have got to start eating. I have some magic mouthwash and feel like I can swallow but there is fear of burning and choking. Does anyone have any good ideas about what to try first?

Thank you bob. Did u have the psychological fears I'm having? Don't know if this is normal.

Hi, Monica
Like Bob mentioned, eggs (use lots of butter) are a good first choice. Have a big glass of water near to hand. Angel hair pasta with EVOO will slide right down, too. Baby steps first!

Soupy bowl of Cream of wheat with butter, milk, sugar, if you can tolerate, you can add canned peaches later on as you progress. Can you drink a protein supplement like ensure, glucerna or boost. I could not tolerate scrambled eggs for a while, it was a texture thing, same as bread. Anorexia, starvation is a psychological thing. Maybe see counselor or someone for eating disorders.

My very first solid food after PEG feeding for 4 weeks was a soft scrambled egg. I was fortunate that I retained my taste so it was wonderful. Water was needed to wash it down but it was quite good smile

Just remember.. "chew, chew, chew, chew... Sip and swallow, sip and swallow".

Once you get on the train, it becomes easier...

Positive thoughts and prayers

Poached eggs, those packs of Knorr Noodles and Sauce, vanila ice cream, cream of chicken soup. Those were some of the things I could eat during and after treatment.

Sorry to hear you havent been feeling the best.

Here is a list of easier to eat foods. The foods on this list have a smoother texture and tend to be on the bland side to make it easier to relearn how to eat again. Canned peaches were one of my staples. They slide right down easily.
Good luck!!!
