Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 168 | I am not sure if I should post this here or under Survivor Stories, but I am a writer and have been writing and publishing a lot about my cancer. One piece in particular that might be of interest to others on this site was published this past winter in The Massachusetts Review. I gave a reading two months ago and read this piece. It took a lot out of me because it is still very raw, what I went through. Writing is a kind of activism, I suppose, in terms of raising awareness and trying to help others take a walk in our shoes through the power of language. SCC left tonsil, stage IV, HPV+, metastatic to one lymph node. Biopsy 12/23/10; tonsillectomy 1/13/11; DX 1/25/11; Peg in 1/28/11. Peg out 6/29. TX 1/31/11-3/21/11: 35 IMRT plus 3 Cisplatin. Pet-Scan 6/20/11 = CLEAR! Three years out, learning to live with the long-term side effects of radiation while reminding myself to feel blessed.

Wife to John,dx 10/2012, BOT, HPV+, T3N2MO, RAD 70 gy,Cisplatinx2 , PEG in Dec 6, 2012, dx dvt in both legs after second chemo session, Apr 03/13 NED, July 2013 met to lungs, Phase 1 immunotherapy trial Jan 18/14 to July/14. Taxol/carboplatin July/14. Esophagus re-opened Oct 14. PEG out April 8, 2015. Phase 2 trial of Selinexor April to July 2015. At peace Jan 15, 2016.
