i keep seeing and some people on this board keep saying that HPV oral cancer is somehow more treatable than regular oral cancer... how true is that?? is that possible?

There is at least one study that concluded that HPV+ SCC responds much better to the conventional treatment (and therefore has a lesser chance of recurrence) than HPV- SCC. Since then many oral cancer specialists have discussed doing studies decreasing either the amount of radiation or the amount of or type of chemo or no chemo at all for HPV+ SCC patients all in an effort to reduce the toxicity of this treatment while still killing the cancer. To my knowledge no such study has been completed.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

im still not good at reading and understanding the information on peoples accounts in terms of what they went through.. can u tell me a little about your story?
