I hope this is the correct place to post this but I hear a lot of different suggestions on water requirements. So much goes into the answer and the old 8 glasses a day isn't true. The body is 60%-80% water depending different parts and requirements are based on weight, climate, altitude, general health, etc. A baseline rule of thumb is 1/2 your body weight. Driving across Dallas in the summer for example, takes 16-20 oz of water to make up for the depletion from the heat and a/c. Too much too fast can overload the kidneys especially during chemo using platinum based protocols. Even the Mayo Clinic suggests 3 liters/day for men, 2.2 for women as a baseline with adjustments for humidity, recent fever, breast feeding, climate, altitude, etc.

Here is a water requirement calculator. Avoid the dehydration especially as we move into warmer months.

And from our ChristineB
His daily intake must be at least 2500 calories and 48 oz of water daily. That is a minimum! Anything less and he will soon begin to struggle and end up with dehydration and malnutrition. Im not trying to scare you but this will happen.
I'm onboard with about 2 litres minimum. Remember, if you are consuming other things with liquid at least some of that counts in, that is my cheat factor if I run low on pure liquid.

Thanks for the info. I used to have a "water apps" on iPad, but took it off. It was cool, and had all your glasses lined up, mine were 11, to be drunk throughout the day, and would empty when used lol. After a day, I got tired of ot. They also say 20 percent liquid can be obtained by food, but the rest should be by liquid ounces.

John's dietitian recommends 1.17 liters of water plus the six and a half cans of Nutren he takes in everyday. Her concern is with whether the kidneys can handle too much water. John weighs in at 185 pounds and he is five foot seven.
