He has recently had many issues with his teeth and jaw bone on the side of the radiation. This week his jaw bone fractured just walking across the lawn. He is scheduled this Friday for a titanium plate and removal of dead jaw bone. Does anyone know anything about this. I am new to this site, just trying to get some more info. We were told we could try this or do the fibula flap whichever we want. | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Your husband should be doing hyprebaric oxygen treatments (HBO). At least 30 of them. Marx Protocal is 20 HBO prior to any teeth extractions and 10 afterwards, same goes when removing piece of his jawbone. This is very important!!! Without HBO he runs a very high risk for having continuing problems with osteoradionecrisis (radiation induced death of his jawbone). I would ask the physician about HBO and if they say you dont need it then go to a major cancer center like Moffitt, MD Anderson or Vanderbuilt (I think those are nearest to you) for a second opinion.
Good luck!!!
