Hello everyone
I have posted before on my tongue cancer adventures and now I have a different thought process going on
I recently had a Petscan/Catscan combo done and it appears that i have suspicious activity in my thyroid gland of 7cms.
Of course with my history I am a little anxious as to what is going on/ I am having a Ultrasound done on Monday afternoon.
I had chemo and radiation done last year following partial glossectomy and skin flap done the year before
Does anyone have any input on this subject?
Does it require additional surgery if its cancer?

I would appreciate any feedback
Thank you and God Bless
Bob

Bob, I only know that a dear friend had thyroid cancer 20, yes 20!, years ago. She was in the hospital for a couple of days with a radioactive implant which killed everything, including the thyroid, and has taken the synthroid or something like it ever since, with no problems. Procedures have surely advanced in the interim, so you might do a search on the net. Just wanted you to know about my friend who is healthy and happpy post thyroid cancer. I don't think this is anything to panic over (grin).

Bob,

One of my in-laws had thyroid cancer about 20 years ago. I don't recall specifically what his course of treatment was, but he has been well and cancer-free ever since.

I also have a friend who had treatment for thyroid cancer about 3 years ago. She had a surgery and radioactive stuff afterwards, not sure of the proper terms. Look at the section of this site where it shows famous celebrities that have had oral cancer. Rod Stewart was treated for it and is doing fine, as is my friend. Good luck on Monday.

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Bob, I know its late but never to late to celebrate! Good for you! I was just looking for where to post my adventures and saw the proximity of your situation with mine. I had SCC removed from tongue base in March then small tumor showed up on ultrasounds in May & again larger in Sept on my thyroid gland. Have just had needle biopsy today and feeling quite sore but anticipating GOOD results...wish me some of your luck?!
Thanks,
Maria
