This year Award wining actress Blythe Danner Paltrow has partnered with OCF in a media effort to raise awareness and drive people to April's screenings. While this will involve a variety of mechanisms, one of them will be TV appearances as an OCF spokesperson to talk about the loss of her husband Director Bruce Paltrow to oral cancer, and through that to raise awareness of early signs and symptoms and the need for a annual screening. So far OCF has her booked on the Katie Couric show on March 7th, and on the Rachel Ray show on April 4th. Blythe, along with her daughter Gwyneth Paltrow and son Jake Paltrow, have been strong OCF supporters for many years now, and the impact of their efforts on the foundation's goals cannot be overstated. We need your help also! Please call your dentist and ask them to participate in Oral Cancer Awareness Month by offering free screenings for a minimum of 3 hours any day in the month of April. I can email you a letter to send to them that has all the information about it. The more screening sites the better!! Please email [email protected] if you would like to help us this year. Thank you! Set your DVR's to tape it if you can't be home to watch. While she only has a short part of the show ( there are other cancer type advocates on the show as well as Dr. Marshal Posner), she will be speaking to the number of people that die from oral cancer each day, the loss of her husband, and of course reminding people that April is oral cancer awareness month.

Blythe Danner was terrific, and she got in a plug for www.oralcancer-screening.org, which is an OCF website promoting screenings and other awareness events. For those who didn't see the program because it was pre-empted by the election of the pope, it will be rebroadcast on April 5 -- see here: http://www.katiecouric.com/on-the-show/2013/03/13/cancer/

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.
