My husband had a ct scan last Wednesday showing small tumor in tongue, surgery on Thursday morning to remove tumor (25% of tongue removed). He had IV tonsil cancer in 2001 with six weeks rads. Has kept same doctor visiting every year.

This morning his tongue is very white. Is this something that should be tended to immediately or can we wait to call the doctor tomorrow (Monday)?

Thank you for your help!

Sheryl

It could be thrush, which is very common in oral cancer patients. Thrush is basically a yeast infection in the mouth. It will heal with prescription medications. Call the doc as this will need to be taken care of right away.

Has anyone ever used a strong collodial silver solution/spray to get rid of oral thrush?

This alternative product may be questionable, and never heard of using it for for oral thrush treatment, and would wait for a proper diagnosis by the doctor, especially after surgery, if it is thrush, and not something else. Thrush can be caused by dry mouth, medication like antibiotics, poor immune system, nutrition, etc, and is usually treated with diflucan (flucomizole), clotrimizole, nystatin rinses, salt water rinses. Some use probiotics, and avoiding sugar, alcohol, yeast and princessed food products, which feed thrush, but contact the doctor. If you ever think the doctor should be called, it is usually warranted. Good luck.

Thank you!! The doctor has sent a prescription to the pharmacy for something that will clear it up. I'll pick it up in 20 minutes. So thankful.

You're welcome. Thrush is very treatable, but can get out of control in immune compromised patients like with cancer, if not treated properly, and then can get into the blood system through the intestines, any ulcers or wounds in the mouth, and then it's Invasive or disseminated candidiasis going throughout the body, which is more difficult to treat, and can be deadly. This happened to me. Good luck with everything.
