Hey Cowie,
Welcome to our family! It's not easy but we definitely are supportive here! My husband has also been thru the tongue cancer, also with a recurrance to the neck. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Cowie,

Glad you found us and this board but sorry about the circumstances you are facing as the reason for coming here. I had a total glossectomy in July 2003 and with the help of my speech therapist and my mouth prothesis, my speech has really come a long way. Talking which use to come so naturally before now takes a lot of effort in forming words (especially for those sounds requiring a tongue) but I've been able to compensate for those sounds and find that people can understand me about 90-95% of the time. So hang in there and try to find a good speech therapist. You'll amaze yourself that with a good therapist and some hard work, your speech will improve significantly. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Nancy

Greetings and welcome to the forum from a fellow 30-something... I'm getting ready to start a second round of radiation myself for a recurrence in one of my lymph nodes... pretty crazy to be dealing with all this stuff at our age, eh?

Blessings to you and may you give this disease a total KO...

Cowie, Welcome. Sorry you have to be a part of this, but the good news is that this site is here to help you through some of the rough times. I had tonsil cancer so I can't relate or help too much with tongue issues, but welcome to the club.
