Emily mentioned a local anesthetic from her dentist that really helped, but did not see a later post with the name; do you Emily, or others, know its name?
Thank you all for your posts; they have been very helpful and encouraging, which I need as I "look forward to" rad and chemo (cisplatin) for tongue cancer on 8/20. Thank you.

Hi Ed,
Glad I happened to see your post! The medicine was a mixture of the following:
10% lidocaine, 10% prilocaine, 4% tetracaine.

I would dab it on with a q-tip before eating, and it made it more bareable. The gel burned a bit when I first put it on, but once it started to numb up it felt better. Good luck!!

Emily - 24 years old at diagnosis

Left oral tongue, poorly differentiated
Hemiglossectamy, reconstruction, partial neck dissection

Thanks Emily; was this a commercial product with these ingredients, or something that your dentist made special for you?

Ed, I used viscous lidocaine during rads and it was prescription. I swished it around and held it in my mouth for longer and longer periods as the sores in my mouth got worse. Dunno the mixture that Emily writes about, maybe it's even better (?). Anyway I recommend you speak with your RO about it.

Good luck with your upcoming treatment!
