Hi, I am four years post cancer and fortunately doing well. I was self employed before cancer, and after cancer took a job with a company primarily for the insurance. I would like to go back to the self employed life when I hit five years post cancer because I thought five years was the magic number required to get a decent insurance rate again but am finding out it may be 10. Has anyone else been thru this and what have you found out? Thank you very much in advance for your input.

My insurance company told me after I was 5 years cancer free I could with several doctors documentation get any insurance I wanted. They did tell me the rates even at 5 years post diagnosis would be higher. Luckily I already had several policies prior to getting sick. I am interested in hearing what others have discovered with this.

My son who is 6 years cancer free, just got a regular full time job with Blue Cross Blue Shield as a software developer- one of the companies with whom he had been doing contract work. His insurance covers health, dental and vision.
