Your feelings are perfectly normal. The shock of the words "You have Cancer" usually rocks people to the core. You have come to the right place for answers to almost any question you can think of. You can read allot of the older posts and help educate yourself on what to expect as you start your journey to recovery. Please post more as you learn more details about staging and plan of treatment. Dan

As others have said I'm sorry you had to go looking; but I'm glad you found us. I was also scared and depressed when this journey started for me. Hopefully you will be able to see the truth of things as you remain with us: it may be a difficult fight but it is one we can win. The other members here are very supportive and knowledgable people.
One of the best bits of advice often offered here is that you should if at all possible look for a place with a comprehensive approach to treatment. As my ENT told me, its best to get all of the things needed done under the same roof.
Know that you are in my prayers.
Peace,
Fr. Mike

I imagine that not too many of us knew anything about cancer before we were diagnosed, and it is only natural to be frightened of the unknown, especially when the word "cancer" is involved. One can't talk you out of depression, obviously, but I want to reassure you that there is a lot of room for hope, and no need to assume the worst. Certainly going through treatment for oral cancer is not easy, as those of us who have experienced it can tell you. But we survived it and in time things get better. My life has almost returned to normal. I have gained back my weight and I look and feel just about like my old self, and probably have a better outlook on life now than I did before I was diagnosed. Keep the faith, and keep us posted on your progress.
