Ron doesn't like me posting his health issues on facebook and I just needed to vent a little...so thanks for listening. A couple of weeks ago Ron went to his Dermotologist to check out an area underneath his chin. They did a biopsy that turned out to be positive for squamus cell carcinoma.
He had an appt. with his Doc at UCLA on the 6th to do a clean up lazer procedure on his gums. His Dermo faxed the results on his neck to the Doc at UCLA. What was suppose to be a no big deal lazer procedure turned into a 6 hour surgery.
His Doc had to call in a plastic surgeon. There were two teams working on him. The first team removed the skin on his neck that had the cancer. Then the plastic surgeon's team did a skin graft from Ron's right chest and attached it to his neck. He ended up being in the hospital for 6 days. Fortunately he is going to be fine and in a couple of months it will probably look like he had a neck lift!
The main point I want to share is to please always check out anything that looks "weird" because you just never know. Ron and I were both caught off guard by this...
Love you all,
Shelley

That must have been an awful time for you in the waiting room. I'm sure they kept tabs with you though, but still. Glad to here they expect all will be ok. Kathy

Im very sorry to hear that his 'spot' turned out to be SCC. Im sure it was quite a shock to both of you. So glad that it was taken care of quickly. Hope he has a fast recovery from the surgery. You can never be too cautious when it comes to getting checked after going thru oral cancer treatments. Thanks for letting everyone know about this so they will be careful.
Wishing Ron continued good health!
