The past month or more I have had hoarseness, no heartburn, sometimes coughing up mucus, white stuff, then my voice is clearer again. I do sometimes have an odd taste in my mouth, not so much sour, I can't tell what it tastes like exactly. My latest CT showed everything ok, except my thyroid, which is smaller. (already knew that, I'm on meds for hypothyroid)
I am scheduled to have a video of my larynx in action, which is recommended by my ENT doc. It'll show if there is reflux or if I have "weak vocal cords" . . . I doubt it as I don't have the other symptoms for that. I started OTC Prilosec once a day 4 days ago, already got better, but I'm still hoarse, nothing wrong with my breathing or swallowing function. My rad therapy included using IMRT on my lower neck, as my "large scar of variable depths" went over my larynx area. Yes my neck is thin, and they told me unfortunately because of that the scar/cut had to be placed there. I'm a light weight. So I did lose part of my thyroid function, but hoping my larynx was not so hard hit. Guess I'll find out.
Anyone with experience on this? Anne

I have a similar problem but I know what causes mine. Its is due to my sinuses being shot from the radiation. Its like I always have a head cold which causes post nasal drip. That in turn affects my throat almost daily. Once I get the gunk out of my throat all is good.
I hope yours is easily fixed like mine is. Best wishes with your continued improvements! There might not be anything to do about it but if it is laryngeal reflux there might be. I just don't have any heartburn. Sometimes a funny taste in my mouth though. I just thought someone might know about this.
