I was just recently diagnosed with throat cancer and was told that I will be starting my treatment at MD Anderson in 1-3 weeks. I live out of state and am in desperate need of a place to stay while I'm doing my radiation treatments in Houston. I was hoping that someone might have some idea of a cheaper place that is fully furnished and somewhat near MD Anderson. Any help?

Buddy,

There is usually a department at the hospital that devotes itself to helping patients with housing and logistics. The Head and Neck department at the hospital should be able to direct you there. I would be very surprised if there is not someone to help you with housing and even possible financial help.

The American Cancer Society runs Hope Lodges in many locations that provides accomodations as long as you have a caregiver to help.

Good luck,

Deb

Fantastic! Thank you for the link. I will try that today. Where did your husband receive treatment?

Buddy sorry..just now checking back in.

Bill was seen by the Head and Neck Clinic at Moffitt Cancer Center (a comprehensive cancer center) in Tampa, FL. He still goes there for checkups, followups and scans. With the blessings of our Moffitt doctors, his radiation and chemo treatments were administered by our local oncologists known to Moffit. That allowed us to stay home thankfully. We really considered staying in Tampa until given the nod to treat at home.
That is how I found out about the Hope Lodge as we toured one on the campus of USF where Moffit CC is. I did look for one in Houston for you but there is not one nearby.

I feel certain you will get some guidance from MDA with regard to housing as I am sure they have many people from out of town there for treatment.

Wishing you the best, Deb
