This question is asking about a procedure which is the topic it is under. This is not a question that I know the answer to so I did not respond. I can only give you general info. Whenever a surgeon removes part of your body, any replacement will not function quite as good as the original. In this instance I would think that the thyroid is a very important part of your body. Here is some info I found on the web. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/Living-without-a-Thyroid-Gland/show/324227 ChristineSCC 6/15/07 L chk & by L molar both Stag I, age44 2x cispltn-35 IMRT end 9/27/07 -65 lbs in 2 mo, no caregvr Clear PET 1/08 4/4/08 recur L chk Stag I surg 4/16/08 clr marg 215 HBO dives 3/09 teeth out, trismus 7/2/09 recur, Stg IV 8/24/09 trach, ND, mandiblctmy 3wks medicly inducd coma 2 mo xtended hospital stay, ICU & burn unit PICC line IV antibx 8 mo 10/4/10, 2/14/11 reconst surg OC 3x in 3 years very happy to be alive | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,264 Likes: 5 "OCF Canuck" Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | "OCF Canuck" Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,264 Likes: 5 | Most often times the answer to that is in your paperwork - if you signed a consent form saying they are allowed to - they can. Though if you are just being scoped and having a small amount of tissue removed it's unlikely since it's a more invasive procedure. can they as in physically? Yes - they could technically go in and remove it. They can pretty much do anything. But it often depends on consent, or time, preparedness ( were the thinking of doing it based on the look of you thyroid - etc.) also depending on the doctor one procedure requires you to be put under where as the other may not (we used to do broncos copies with just freezing! But his all depends on the context if your question... Are you hoping they will or afraid they will. Best to ask your dr. Good luck.
