Hi, my dad is undergoing unilateral radical radiotherapy of 60 Gy for his recurrent nodal disease. He has now unable to hear anything from his right ear.

Anyone with a similar experience?

Christine, he already had 3 x chemotherapy of Taxane, Cisplatin and 5-FU prior to surgery. No concurrent chemo radiation this time.

I've had some hearing loss ever since I was diagnosed in June this year.I've had tinnitus for some months now and got a cold in late July which made it ten times worse - total loss of hearing on my left hand side. It's not as bad now, but it's still there and I certainly am harder of hearing on the left.I'm on cisplatin for my chemo and am having radiothrapy at the same time. The doctors tell me this could be temporary, but they obviously don't want to commit themselves either way.

Cisplatin is known for causing PERMANENT hearing loss especially in the high frequency range so please immediately inform your doctor in charge of chemo. They can and should switch you to Carboplatin which according to the chemo docs at Moffitt Cancer Center, a top 100 cancer center in the US, in Tampa, Fl, is just as effective as Cisplatin.

BTW I had Cis and I have permanent hearing loss as a result.

Apparently, my father's hearing has returned (I would not say completely) after supportive hospitalization.
