You can choose male/female voices and many different languages. When my son wasn't able to speak right after surgery as well as during the most painful part of Rad Tx, he used his laptop and sign language but how great it would have been if he had been able to use this! And I'm thinking that for anyone surviving the painful parts of recovery, this could be a procedure that might help or even be entertaining. How about that?

There are a variety of utilities - found under the apple menu then system preferences, then select universal access - that do not only this, but alter type for those with poor visions and more.

I went to System Preferences, then Universal Access and sure enough it was there - right where you said it was on my MacBook Pro (I just recently got it after struggling for years with my "old" iBook from 2004). Well, it just proves over and over again, that there is no end to all that you can learn on this forum about all kinds of things. Thank you, Brian!!

Linux has packages available as well (look in your distro's package manager for TTS)
Not nearly as sexy is the AT&T Labs Natural Voices online app.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.
