Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | A few days ago when I was brushing my teeth I noticed a little bit of pain in my left cheek. There is not a visible ulcer, but it did bleed a little last Friday. My cheek is now thicker and the swelling is visible to other people. I also notice that when I brush my teeth the toothbrush doesn't go back there very well. The inside of my cheek is swollen, or thick. I do not know if this has been there and I never noticed until the pain, but it has me very nervous. I know I have a PET scan tomorrow, but I am not sure I trust those.

I know you are nervous, and I hope this resolves quickly and turns out to be nothing more than a swollen cheek. Clark has had swelling on and off on his left cheek over the years and also has pain that is from a radiation-scarred salivary duct. Every PET scan has been clear. I just wanted to offer some support. You are doing the right thing in getting it checked out. Hang in there.

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,357 Likes: 5 | I have had that a number of times. Sometimes when I am eating I crunch down on that sensitive tissue without even noticing it. Right before we went to Alaska, my left cheek inside was swollen with red and purple blotches and dark pigment cicles/spots. Go figure. Whatever it was - it did go away. This likely will too - these things happen even to those of us who have not had cancer. Hugs
