Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 476 | John had his PET Scan last Friday. The results are in and there is no sign of cancer. It did show some "uptake" in his lower left molar. He will follow up with his dentist on that issue. My question is - he had an appointment today with his Oncologist and his WBC was 3.5, normal is between 4 and 10? The Oncologist said not to worry about it. Why two years out of treatment is his WBC still low? Since he finished treatments he has only had "normal" WBC one time. Anywho I'm just thrilled and relieved that he is doing so well and the PET Scan was clear. It is hard not to worry about "things".

Ex-spouse MISDIAGNOSED with SCC-HN IVa 12/10. Tonsils out 1/11. 4 teeth out 2/11. TX Erbitux x2, IMRT x2 2/11. 2nd opinion-benign BCC-NOT CANCER 3/11. TX stopped 3/11. New doctors 4/11. ENT agrees with 2nd opinion 5/11. ENT scoped him-all clear 7/11. Ordered MRI anyway. MRI 8/22/11 Result-all clear.

Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 453 | Wonderful news Wanda. The absolute biggest sense of relief is felt on these days when you hear "all clear". Congratulations to you both. sorry I can't answer your other question. Steve hasn't had a blood test done since he finished treatment. Not sure if that is a good thing though but he also got the all clear today and is now 22 months out of treatment so we are happy. All the best to you and John.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Wanda, the 3.5 isnt too bad. I struggle with the same thing. My white count is always low no matter what I do. When I had the picc line and did the IV antibiotics, my white count stayed around 1.5. I think certain medications will make it run low. If it gets too low the doctor will give shots of a white count booster, I think its called a procreate shot.
