Less than 2 years later my father in law has stage 4 squamos cell carcinoma in his right lower jaw. We have an appointment today with a team of 5 surgeons who want to resect his jaw and replace with fibula. They are talking about a trach, a feeding tube and a long recovery. My in-laws have moved in with us so we can help with the recovery process. I am so nervous and hope that this works!! Can anyone give me advice on what we need to prepare for? The little stuff no one talks about...support from people who know what this is seems helpful. I've only logged in here for the past hour and already feel better! I am just praying that our family can handle whatever is given to us!
Father in Law Stage IV SCC right mandible. Had resection jaw, replaced with fibula, plate and free flap from leg and chest 07/12/2011...currently has trach and feeding tube through recovery. My in laws are living with us through the process and we are co-caregivers.
