| Joined: May 2011 Posts: 3 Member | OP Member Joined: May 2011 Posts: 3 | I'm in the middle of treatment for SCC of left mandible: I've had surgery to excise the diseased tissue, and do some reconstruction, and I'll soon start IMRT and chemo, as the cancer was invasive. This is second occurrence of SCC, previous was base of tongue, seven years ago, treated with IMRT only.
I have a G tube because I can't reliably swallow (or talk). After leaving hospital, I continued to lose weight. I was on 6 cans/day of Jevity 1.2, so I switched to 8 cans/day and my weight is steady. Despite appeals to my doc and home care provider, no additional food has been delivered, and I'm running out.
It's too late now to order Jevity from an online supplier myself and get it delivered in time, but I see that others have used Ensure Plus, which I might use by itself or to stretch my remaining supply of Jevity. Anyone have comments on Ensure Plus vs. Jevity?
BTW, I'll check tomorrow with local pharmacies and medical supply companies to see if they carry Jevity. | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 Senior Patient Advocate Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Senior Patient Advocate Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | Also ask about Carnation Instant Breakfast VHC which has 560 nutritionally balanced cals in the small 8oz can. You can get it quickly by ordering it from the pharmacy dept of the likes of Walgreens or CVS. It used to take me only a day to get it from Walgreens. You may have to mix it with whole milk to get it down the tube.

It comes in different strengths. There are many different brands on the market, they all will need a prescription. The Carnation VHC can be purchased thru the Amazon link right here on the forum. It runs $40 something per case with the S&H. Have been trying to get doc to prescribe Jevity 1.5 since 5/5 (more than 2 weeks) via home care service and even showed him a graph of my weight on different calorie intakes at a recent appointment. My next month's supply arrived yesterday. It was Jevity 1.2 at 8 cans a days, which I'd explained did not provide a weight gain. Oh well.
