Joined: May 2011 Posts: 1 | my 27 year old son had a left lymph node neck dissection, due to melanoma. his neck is sore and very tiring to hold his head up all day now that he is back to work, what are exercises to build up the muscles? I can't recommend any exercises but I can recommend that your son speak to his surgeon about a prescription for physical therapy and also for treatment for any lymphedema. I found the specialized neck massage to be very helpful in improving my range of motion.

Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,082 | After my neck dissection, even though I did not have any muscles cut (I had a modified ND), the physical therapist really helped.
Unlike a lot of related issues, almost all insurances will cover a prescription for PT following a ND. A good therapist can really make a difference in having your son recover.
