I can answer that - because he gave me my lead - 3 weeks into rads I had a few one on my tongue was very painful - however - he suggested Manuka honey - I knew it couldn't hurt - so I bought it and used it and three days later I was clear and have been since - they do pop up but a swish with the honey really helps - it is antibacterial, antiseptic, and cuts down on inflammation. I use 16 ( it comes in strengths) it is the highest organic Manuka you can get - I use it three to four times a day after I've eaten - and before bedtime - take a spoonful hold it in your mouth - it is swishable when it melts. Keep it there for 2-3 minutes and swallow. I have to be honest it does sting - but once they heal you will feel way better - mine were gone in 3 days. Good luck!!

Michelle Ann, sounds like our cancers were very similar. I had an egg sized lymph node that came from a same side primary in my tonsil 1ml in size. So...the tumor was small but the node was pretty big. I was wondering about my lack of sores because I was reluctant to atribute it all to the Manuka Honey as so many folks on this site are "hard medicine" if you will. The best I can usually get (and from my medical team too) is "it won't hurt you" When someone says that I basically hear "good luck with that hippie crap" So....I had my rad tech. show me my "fields". Most of my rads are going into where my tonsil and lymph node were and I have the burns to show that. My burns started in the middle of week 5!!! Inside throat and outside neck. Nothing in my mouth. I do have tinny red bumps on tongue surface towards back and my uvulia is almost totally gone. roof of my mouth and tongue are like smooth and pinkish and definatley feel "nuked" but no sores. No ulcers or anything. No gum pain. I know it's the honey. I use tons of it. Right before and right after TX + like 3-4 other times a day. I've gone kinda overboard (and it tasts awfull to me now) by using a full tablespoon, swishing it for 3-4 whole minutes, gargleing, and swallowing it. I've even managed to skate by the "tube" so I'm officially NO PEG. I have been praying to be "that guy" since TX started. In fact if my calories are a bit low it's because of taste not pain or swallowing ability. There is at least one (maybe two) ongoing Manuka honey studies/trials due out soon. One is from BC Canada and I think the other is at Sloan or maybe Hopkins. Check it out. Your honey has to be #16 quality or better. Whole foods has it. Or go right to manukahoney.com. I got mine from them in like 3-4 days. It's never too late and even if it only helps a little, it's worth it. Remember...it won't hurt. smile

This is true... Oh and I would like to add - I am getting my whole mouth and both sides of my neck radiated... So my mouth is very much in the spray radius. Good luck
