You did good, Christine - everyone is so proud of you. I hate the looks on some of the faces of people watching floats go by, I guess because they see how some of the survivors look. You don't look bad at all, and I guess if one doesn't realize what the survivors went through just to be alive, they are dumbfounded shocked. If they only knew. Getting out there and getting exposure and educating people to our horrible experience(s) though, is what it takes. You could just tell that everyone on the float is so proud, as they should be.

On FB, Megan tagged a photo taken of us while I was on set. I wasnt allowed to publish it til the commercial aired. Good eye Donna! There are several videos showing me talking about my life. Those make me cry, Ive seen it once and that was enough. Seeing how my life has changed makes me very sad. But then knowing the ways my life is so much better and more productive helping others makes everything worthwhile!

Those are very graphic with showing what life is like living with the after effects of having a serious illness. I speak about the limitations I face daily. The videos are not at all happy like the commercial is. Four of the other singers are also oral cancer survivors with their own individual challenges. Not everyone who goes thru oral cancer will go on to live with these types of problems.

When the tears came, I wanted so badly to come to you and hold you for a big hug. I do hope I get to meet you someday soon! I am saving the videos to show my son who smokes. Nothing I've said or done has been enough to get him to quit, not even the fact that Paul, his brother had cancer - but maybe you can through your videos. I'm sure it will help so many others, too. What a wonderful thing you and the other survivors have done to bring awareness about Oral Cancer! Thank you so much for all you do and for just being You!

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

You are an amazing person and I am so PROUD to know you.
What you are doing now by doing these videos will show people what oral cancer can do. You are doing a wonderful thing and hopefully you will save some lives.

I cried with you on the first one and could feel your pain for what you went through and have lost from your previous life.
The pill collection is impressive and even though I have read about it many times here this is the first time I have seen how the feeding works.
You are so amazing and brave to have done this. It is educational as well as inspiring to others who will watch this when looking for information on OC.

6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

cg to husband, 48 Stage 1V head and neck SCC. First surgery 9/07. Radiation and several rounds of chemo followed. Mets to chest and lungs. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." Went home to God on February 22, 2009.
