I have to admit I am not terribly worried about the surgery, moreover the recovery has me concerned. Worried about eating, and functionality of my new tongue, and speech of course... sorry for venting. Have a good week everyone... you all are amazing.

Hi Cheryl

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Just to ease your mind, I have a friend who had half his tongue removed, he was eating soft meals 5/6 days post op and talking quite well. The only thing he had was a lisp!! Now 4 months later, you wouldn't even know he had anything done.

Wishing you all the very best

Liza

I had the right half of my tongue removed a lil over 9.5 months ago and I am doing great. A few weeks after surgery i was talking ok, and eating fine, but then i had radiation and it messed it all up, laugh.
now I am 6.5 months out of radiation and talking and eating great. A lil trouble saying r and l and sometimes spit when i talk, but everyone thinks it's cute, lol yoy, hehe.
Wishing you the best with your upcoming surgery, will keep you in my thoughts and hope for a fast recovery!

Cheryl, wishing you good luck on your surgery. You may find it comforting to know that my aunt had a little over 1/3 of her tongue removed on the left side last year. If you met her today you would never know! She has a ver slight lisp with "s" and "c" sounds but otherwise sounds totally normal. She is eating well and even after radiation is now saying certain foods are "DELICIOUS".

Thinking of you

Dodie
