That was the quickest part of my anatomy to heal and you need to look really look to see the scar. They did take a small amount of bone during surgery but dont know exactly where from and it was not invasive. I can ask at my next routine visit. This was for testing only and I remember the pathology took the longest to come back. It was explained that it gets crushed to test. I was happy to get the all clear on that around one week later while recovering in hospital. Wishing you all the very best with your surgery. Gabriele

I did not have any traces of cancer in my throat. Check out some of the other threads here, as they are several people that have had throat cancer.
Good luck!

I don't have my surgery date yet. Hopefully soon. I am guessing it will be mid Feb or late feb. It sucks, because I can almost feel the cancer manifesting, can't wait to just get it out.
The lichen planus that I had on my tongue was supposed to be taken care of when I had the radial forearm flap procedure, but there may be areas forming right where my flap attaches to my tongue. I have not talked about treatment for that yet with my EMT, as I have tried inhibitor drugs, photodynamic therapy already with no success. I will look into what you were talking about.
I read up on the imaging guide CT for real time viewing that you mentioned. That sounds like the way to go. You should insist they use that for you to be as minimally invasive as possible.

I have had 4 partial glossectomie. 3 by one doc and 1 by the doc I currently see. I have never had anything split. I'm sure others on here will chime in soon:) I just wanted to you know there are people out there that had it done and it was minimally invasive. I wish you luck and will check in to see how your doing.

Is the guy who spear headed the image guided surgery - I very much hope he will be using it on me - I will ask him tomorrow! If you are having surgery - I would suggest mentioning the possible return of the planus along your flap - perhaps they can do something about it - I would seriously suggest taking whatever treatment you can for the LP - and include bumping up you antioxidants and live probiotics- it helps!

And I am due for surgery the first week in feb (yay! And EEK!) - he doesn't know for sure if he will have to split my jaw. He made me sign off on it - and said the he would only do it if it was necessary to ensure he gets all the cancer. that's all I can ask for. I am not crazy enough to worry about the way it looks with my life on the line. I would rather be cancer free - and have a small scar, than have them not get it all because I didn't want a scar! heavy sigh... I need to become close friends with a good plastics guy!

From what I understand it seems like most challenges of treatment come from the RT and collateral damage associated with same and I am hoping to dodge that bullet. Any thoughts?
