By Wednesday I was in considerable pain and starting to "Look over my shoulder." I opted for my dentist first (They all know my entire story). After X-rays I was told I had a dying nerve in a capped tooth and needed a root canal. I laughed and looked at the assistant saying "I bet you don't see too many people excited over a root canal?" So, after some antibiotics and the swelling went down, root canal happened yesterday which was a piece of cake (Except for them trying to keep my mouth pryed open as the wedges were even too large, thank goodness it was in the front). All smiles (As well as I can). What a relief that was all there was (I had just had a 6 Month with my RO three weeks ago). Has anyone on the boards had something similar and the long term outcome (I do understand all outcomes will differ)? My dentist seemed very pleased with the ease of procedure! Steve

How much damage can it do if there is such a thing with IMRT?

After my first 40 IMRT, my prosthodontist told me I needed a root canal on the wisdom tooth that had been directly in the path of the radiation. His assessment was that an extraction would put me at risk for radiation necrosis but not a root canal. The oral surgeon had wanted to pull it, but my prosthodontist intervened. That was two years ago and all is still fine. I hope you have a similar good experience. I just had new uber X-ray/CT scan of my jaw done last month and it showed no necrosis - although I was amazed at all the staples left behind from surgery to "mark' the tumor as well as the size of the titanium plate that holds my jaw together now. I actually had another root canal done also and no problems but that one was only in the "scatter radiation (?)" zone. Zero problems Best wishes Charm

Like I said the most pain I had afterwards was from having mouth pryed open so long! Hopefully I'll have the same type of long term luck. Best of luck to Kelly & Donna! May yours be pain free as well.... Steve
