Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | Well, my ENT was very thorough and even did a direct laryngoscopy. He also removed with a laser then entire ulcer as everyone was dumbfounded and did not know what it was. We now know that it was NOT CANCER. It was necrosis of the tissue and was causing a lot of pain. My oncologist did tell me that if it comes back as being necrotic then I will get to experience the HBO chamber. I am at home, but in a lot of pain, but so happy to know that this area was not cancer. Will have another PET in four months to see if there changes in the front of my tongue.

Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

After RT I had a lot of mouth ulcers (yes, they are very painful) which went on for months. That was one of the reasons that I went through HBO therapy.
Before they tried HBO on me, they had me on Trental (Pentoxifylline 400 mg) plus vitamin E for many months. Trental/vitamin E is supposed to help the blood flow in radiation damaged tissue.
