Having "clear margins" generally means that the whole cancer was taken out and the tissues around it were cancer free. This is good news. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing for sure if there are distant spread of the cancer to other body sites. This is why close follow-up examination that includes scans as needed are very important. I wish your father all the best.
