I have been to the dentist, sent to a specialist, back to my dentist, have had x-rays and they say they do not see any problem. All the while it still hurts and I am still trying to figure out if it is a tooth or maybe a nerve in my jaw. I know a lot of people talk of dental problems following radiation and I was expecting this, but now when they can not see a problem it makes me wonder, can it be something else? I know my teeth on this side are taking a beating since I can not chew on the other side.

Could it be related to your obturator? I know that my teeth (on the side with the obturator wires) ache from time to time, and I've chalked it up to wire pressure...I did go to my dentist with this complaint last year, and he took xrays and did a thorough check of all my teeth and could find nothing. Eventually, the aches went away.
Good luck with this -- I hope everything turns out okay!

If so you may need a root canal. I've had 3 in the last 10 months. It's no fun but saves my tooth for now and I can eat pain free. Keep an eye on it so it doesn't turn into a bad infection and significantly more trouble.

Usually one time a day it will get really bad. Iwould presume it would mean that I need a root canal, the problem is the dentist has taken x-rays and does not see any problem. I am not even sure which tooth is hurting. I see the prothodontist this week, which is suppose to be to begin the process for my difinitive obturator. I plan to discuss this with him and hope to get some answers.

In most instances, toothaches are caused by a dental problem, such as a dental cavity, a cracked or fractured tooth, an exposed tooth root, or gum disease. Sometimes diseases of the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint), or spasms of the muscles used for chewing can cause toothache like symptoms. The severity of a toothache can range from chronic and mild to sharp and excruciating. It can be a dull ache or intense. The pain may be aggravated by chewing or by thermal foods and liquids which are cold or hot. A thorough oral examination, proper tooth testing and evaluation, along with appropriate dental x-rays, can help determine the cause. What we want to know is whether the toothache is really coming from a tooth or somewhere else.

Had the exam and x ray and dentist noted where my sinus was right near to tooth in question. He chalked it up to a sinus infection. | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 126 Senior Member (100+ posts) | OP Senior Member (100+ posts) Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 126 | That is what I am suspecting. Once in a while it has hurt so bad. I even had a root canal lined up, then it stops hurting and has not hurt in the past two months. Canceled root canal, now it is wait and see.
