Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 179 | About two weeks ago, my mouth ulcers healed and i started trying solid foods like pizza and sandwiches (with loads of water) and i seem to tolerate it ok but then last mon i developed lots and lots of water blisters which now have all burst and have turned into ulcers and they dont seem to be healing!!! I'm now back on smoothies and pureed food. I also have needed to start using salt water rinses again too. I'm just wondering if this is normal? Did this happen because i ate solid foods too early?
I just went to the bathroom and checked my mouth and there are new blisters/bubbles have formed. I dont get it, isnt it supposed to get better each day. I feel like i'm going backwards (even pureed food now stings), its not cancer reoccurence is it?

Partial Glossectemy end March - margins not clear enough.
While waiting for resection - cancer returned,2 new cancerous lumps
Re-section End May & flap from cheek attatched. Margins clear.
Mid June - 4 teeth out
Mid July -32 Rads and 3 Cisplatin
6th Sept 10 Finished Treatment!!

Same thing happened to me. I have no idea why but it slowly went away after about a month.
I asked my doc and he said it just happens this way some times. The lining of your mouth is experiencing yet another change and it reacts.
I would stay on top of it and check with the doc regularly but I think your ok here

This happened to Martin, it went away but he also got thrush of the gum after the blisters. It was treated very quickly with anti biotics, but make sure you check and get a nurse o take a look.
Good luck, I hope you can get back to more solid foofs soon. But don't get disheartened it's slow process.

Girlfriend to Martin 49 years old at diagnosis
Diagnosed with SCC unknown primary June 2008.
Cancer found in single node Stage N2A (3 to 6cm).
Tonsilectomy 16th june, Radical modified neck dissection left side 30th june.
30 TX radiotherapy ended 9th October
First comparative study scan came back clear

Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 179 | Does anyone else have any input on this? Its been a week and the ulcers doesnt seem to be getting any better. I just rang the oncology nurse and she said to "wait a week" and see so i told her it's been a week already so she said to wait another week and call back if i'm still worried. She sounded like she didnt really want to deal with me and she didnt sound very sure on the subject herself!!! Kelly i know you said it went away after 1 month but the nurse said "well i wouldnt wait that long" . She tried to palm me off to my GP but from my past experience with my GP - he's not an expert on radiation of the mouth so he wouldnt know either.
Did any one else get ulcers again after being all healed up ?? And how long before i should start to worry?? I feel silly everytime i panic but then it turns out to be nothing (and there's been LOTS of times).

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Radiation keeps working even after your treatments end. Keep using the salt/baking soda rinses to help with the mouth sores. If you feel that it needs to be checked then insist on seeing the doctor.
