I finnished treatment in December for Nasopharyngeal Ca.
Was told i was cured.
Today i had my third check up and an area of concern has come up which has led doctors to call for a biopsy under GA.
Basically, for a month i've had a small amount of blood mixed in with my daily mucous 'blob'. & occasionaly i can taste it coming down my throat.
My regular nasoscopy today showed a small slit in the skin back there. Surrounded by some tissue.
My noriginal tumour looked like a huge veiny mass, but this one just looked like some slightly raised tight tissue (perhaps scar tissue) with a small slit in it.
So Friday i have my pre-op and Tuesday i'm in for a closer look and perhaps a biopsy.
My oncologist is fairly confident - in fact she said to continue with my work opening a dog grooming salon as normal. & gave me the option of watchful waiting but advised this would be better.
Now my tumour had a complete response by my 3rd chemo cycle. I then had 3 more cycles of high dose chemo & 6&half weeks of R/T. Could there have possibly been a few stray cancer cells left behind??
I guess i'll see.
But i was just wondering if anyone here has had something similar?
My R/T Tx field extended from just above my ears, right down to my chest. One theory is the tissues in the nasopharynx have been made very thin from the damage. & the get sooooso dry & tight that they may have a slight tear??!!
I don't know.
Any experiences would be apreciated.
Thanks,
Michelle

Chelle,
Cured, I find it an overly optomistic word. As many others have said on this site, "...you can be cancer free but, you will never be free from cancer."
The biopsy sounds like a good idea and your oncologist is giving you good advice to continue with your dreams. There are many simple things that could be causing this, so have the biopsy and the result will allow you to be certain.
Telling you not to worry about it, I know, is not going to help but, (to quote the lovely people on this site once more), "It's not cancer until your doctors say it's cancer."

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cheers,

Mike
