Opening my local newspaper, I find there's a job going at my school 'due to long-term sickness absence'---and as it's for Mondays and Tuesdays and there can only be MY class that fits the description, and those are my days of work, it can't be any job but mine! Admittedly, it's only advertised as temporary from January til July, but as my 'sick-note' doesn't run out for another 3 weeks, it just feels slightly premature! And no-one told me! It feels like THEY'VE decided I'm gonna die before either I or my body has made that decision! It's really shaken me up. Brenda

I can't imagine how awful that feels sensitivity does not seem to be your local authority's strong point. I don't think though they have decided you are going to die, hopefully they are just being practical and surmising this is going to be a long job. My husband was diagnosed in July and basically told that even if things go well to forget work for the next year (different diagnosis though involving major surgery) Try and concentrate on getting well and do not worry about people who don't know your situation making assumptions about your future.
good luck
Katie

Phone the human resources and bend someones ear Remind the 'person' in charge of human resources that you are human too and would it be beyond their remit to inform you of said decision, do you like my use of all the current 'buzz words' Sunshine.. love and hugs Helen

Talk about a lack of sensitivity! Yesterday I bought some new clothes and got a haircut, and I thought about you. Gotta keep moving forward I hope you feel better soon Melissa

First, hold your head high as you "flip them off" as we say on this side of the pond. It doesn't have to be in person, oh by the way. I had my job sort of folded up after someone called me and said come back quick they are trying to eliminate your job. I loaded my car with medical supplies and drove 400 miles back to work each Monday and back home on Friday for a few weeks until I could fly without the supplies. They were self-insured and paid some disability but one day decided to stop paying me and told me to sue them since they were filing bankruptcy. Even the company attorney laughed and told me to get in line behind him since lawyers would be paid before employees which were paid before unsecured creditors. I am still thinking somehow I will receive the $24,000 they owe me in back monies before it is all done. You have enough to worry about right now and those a$$holes shouldn't be on the list until you run out of other issues related to treatment. Keep yourself positive...it will help time go by. In my case, they just made me more determined to hang around long enough to show them! Best wishes, Ed

He had surgery in March and is still having rads and needing further surgery after MRSA in neck wound from dissection. The Deputy has been briliiant--she's been sending me regular emails asking after me and sending anecdotes about school life etc. I sent her an email yesterday to ask how the ad had appeared in the press without me knowing, and had also contacted my union. No reply yet from deputy head, union says that's common practice ---but AFTER discussion with the person on sick. Me, ? Am just wondering if the hospital has sent something to school I don't know about! Brenda

Call your human resource person, union rep, or school board. Don't get too wound up try to work through it with them. If all else fails you could go to human rights but, I think they probably jumped the gun and didn't realize it.
Get the facts.
Keep your head up.
Love and Hugs,
Mike
