Hello all
I am new to this, and my mum was diagnosed with Throat Cancer in 2007. Thankfully with Radiotherapy & Chemo, she beat the cancer, however in Feb 2010 - 6 months ago the muscles in her tongue have stopped working?? The consultants have put this down to the side effects of Radiotherapy?? It is making her miserable as she is finding it hard to talk & eat... My question is: Has this happened to anyone?? And if so will the muscles start working again?? I cannot find any information out online which relates to this? Thanks

Hi Michelle, has your mum been working with a speech/swallow therapist? All during my treatment, I did tongue exercises and continue to do them, albeit less frequently, especially when I feel my muscles tighten up a bit. This probably is a side effect of Radiation, but that doesn't mean the problem should be dismissed!

Hi Margaret, yes she has been working with a speech therapist who has given her exercises to do, since Feb, but to be honest they haven't made much of a difference. Her salivary glands were also zapped through her Radiotherapy treatment, meaning she has a continous dry mouth, and now with this tongue problem, we would just love to know if they are going to start working again? I see as well you are also 2 years C free :-) That's great news...

Michelle
