Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | Thank you all for your good wishes. We are babysitting two grandkids at their home this weekend. They're not picking at each other right now, so I figured I had a few minutes to check this post. (Marilyn is out looking for things for the new house...when will that end?)
The house is moving along and we should settle on the 11th and move in on the 12th. I've had tickets for a Phillies game at night on the 12th since before the season started and I'm determined to get there. Settlement on the old house went well and we are now officially homeless and temporarily loaded with cash.
Jeff came home from the hospital this morning to a hospital bed in his family room. His wife will have 24 hour help and nobody knows how long it will be. We've been friends since 1966 and that's longer than many of you have been walking this earth. It is tough for everyone that his life has touched and I do appreciate everyone's support during these trying times.
I'm sure that the knee surgery will be a piece of cake, but I'm sure I'll take advantage of it and get out of unpacking for a few days. Thanks for your good wishes.

Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 235 | Jerry, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Several years ago,I lost my business partner and very good friend to bladder cancer. It was such a helpless feeling and such a big loss.
I'm glad you were able to come on here to get support from a community that knows you very well. Good luck with the knee...

Sorry you are �temporarily� homeless now, but I�m sure Marilyn with her fine shopping skills will make your new home even more beautiful and comfortable than the old one. It will be worth it in the end. And by the way, the shopping for �things for the new house� never ends � even 15 years from now Marilyn will still be doing it!
I�m still keeping Jeff in my prayers. You guys have been friends for a long time � that is what I call true friendship! I�m glad to hear he is home from the hospital and getting skilled care at home.
I hope your knee surgery goes well also. Will you be able to attend any of the walks in the fall?

Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | The move is over, but the boxes are never ending. As you can see, I'm up and running on the internet, a major priority. Can't seem to get my TIVO working yet, but at least the TV is.
The decision was made today for Jeff to go to hospice. He was admitted to the hospital this afternoon and will be transfered to hospice tomorrow. This decision did not come lightly and his wife, I and some of his close friends met with his doctor at their home today. Although I am truly sad, the time is right and hopefully he will no longer be suffering soon.
As far as my knee surgery is concerned, I should be up and around a few days after the surgery on Tuesday and there is no doubt I will be at the David Nasto Memorial walk in Sept.
I hope to be catching up on all of the forum posts while I'm recuperating.

CG/Mom: 5 1/2 years SCC upper palate,4 recurrences, surgeries, chemo & radiation. Mom went to Heaven 1/21/11.

Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | The battle is over and cancer wins again. After 8 1/2 years, my buddy Jeff, lost his battle with multiple myeloma. He was one of the strongest people I have ever known. He was like a brother to me and more than just a friend.
We practiced dentistry together for over 37 years and have been friends since the first day of dental school in the summer of 1966.
He will be missed greatly...CANCER SUCKS!!!!

I am so very sorry that your good friend died. Horrible, horrible disease this cancer. From what I have read on these posts, a few others on OCF also knew what a fine man he was. You and Jeff had shared so much of your lives for over 40 years. My sympathy to you on this sad day.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.
